تزاحم الأميركيون على المتاجر في الآونة الأخيرة مع انتشار فيروس كورونا في البلاد، من أجل تخزين المواد الغذائية التي تكفيهم خلال فترة الحجر المنزلي، وكان لافتا نفاد بعض المنتجات بشكل كامل.
وسجلت بعض المنتجات قفزة كبيرة في المبيعات، مثل عصير البرتقال، الذي قفزت مبيعاته بنحو 38 في المئة على مدار شهر مارس مقارنة بالفترة نفسها من العام الماضي.
وذكر تقرير لشبكة “سي إن إن” الإخبارية الأميركية، أن دائرة ولاية فلوريدا للحمضيات أعلنت عن ارتفاع في الطلب على الحمضيات عموما، وزيادة في الطلب على عصير البرتقال تحديدا بنسبة 100 في المئة.
ووصفت المديرة التنفيذية للدائرة شانون شيب، القفزة بأنها “غير متوقعة وهامة”، مضيفة أن “التوقعات الحالية تشير إلى أنه سيكون هناك زيادة كبيرة في الطلب على المدى القصير على عصير البرتقال”.
ويفضل كثير من الناس شرب عصير البرتقال، على وجه الخصوص، إذا ما أصيبوا بنزلات البرد، وذلك لاحتوائه على فيتامين سي الذي يساعد في تخفيف أعراض الإنفلونزا، واعتقاد البعض “بشكل خاطئ” بأنه يساعد في الوقاية من الإصابة بفيروس كورونا المستجد.
ولم يكن تزايد الطلب على عصير البرتقال لتقوية جهاز المناعة السبب الوحيد وراء ارتفاع أسعاره، فالمعروض من البرتقال قد تضرر بسبب تعطل خطوط النقل وأيضا بسبب الإجراءات التي اتخذتها بعض الدول لحماية المزارعين من التقاط العدوى وخوف المزارعين في الوقت نفسه.
ونقلت الشبكة الإخبارية الأميركية عن نائبة رئيس التسويق في شركة إنتاج عصائر بالولايات المتحدة، ناتالي سيكستون، قولها إن زيادة الطلب على المنتجات ارتفعت بنسبة 25 في المئة في منتصف شهر مارس الماضي انتهى.
